The real estate market is typically influenced by market elements such as supply and demand of the units, quality of available units, and affordability. Affordable housing projects are pivotal opportunities to help low income families attain a quality residence. Such opportunities are tempered by demographic and life cycle issues. This research focuses on the study of the influence of the changes in household composition aspects on the quality of life indicators. The aim of this paper is to investigate the influence of the household composition evolution through real samples of Saudi families in Jeddah City, Saudi Arabia searching for quality of life indicators. These samples are exposed to an intuitive set of questions regarding the household quality of life indicators, how to define and measure them, how to define the changes in these indicators according to the residential type, and how to use these indicators as a base to design affordable housing. The research produces a set of results and recommendations that address and maintain the importance of using quality of life indicators to ensure the quality residence in affordable housing projects. These indicators include household income per capita, house area per capita, crowding, education, employment, parents age with first marriage, parents age with first newborn, number of deliveries, and level of household satisfaction towards the efficiency of house infrastructure. |
